On the way there we killed a bottle of Jameson and were in great spirits. Ready for whatever the night had in store. I seen Push (msk) paiting the Known Gallery for his show that opens on the 23rd. I also met Eklips (msk and The Seventh Letter founder) whom was mad cool. We chopped it up a bit, exchanged a dap and said we would keep in touch. I also met this really cool photographer that was shooting the project (can't remember her name?). Between working a 9-5 (more like a 6-5) and shooting pretty much everyday as well as working on some new Steezy shit (that you can wear). I find myself being one tired lad. I feel like I have so much stuff unfinished like the Steezy Zine and a handful of other projects that I have my hands in. I guess I just need to suck it up because even though I feel the pressure and need a moment to vent, I should also keep in mind that its a good thing to be this busy. In fact, I would feel like a lop of shit if I wasn't. On the brighter side of things. I got me a couple of new cameras including another Yashica T4 Super D. I couldn't help myself. The deal was too good to be true and its always nice to have a backup. Especially one of this caliber. Oh, one more thing. Lately I have been getting a gang of emails as well as verbal compliments about my photography. I usually don't care how people view my work. I mean, I do it for myself and for myself only. If I think a photo I took would look rad on my wall, I do just that and then post it on my blog and what not. The interesting part about the positive feedback that I've been getting is that recently it has all been coming from established photographers and talent. It is one thing to have someone who enjoys a snazzy photograph be a fan of your work. I will be the first to say that I truly don't know what I'm doing mechanically when I use my DSLR. I simply look through the viewfinder and capture the perspective the way I see fit. Which is why out of all of my cameras these three are my favorites. The T4 Super D is amazing and super clean and contrasty. It is also very limited in some aspects and all depends on the feel and type of imagery you are trying to capture. The Leica minilux was my first 35mm camera but I sold it to get the T4. Once I sold my first one I really missed it and felt like a dumb shit for ever letting it go. Thanks to a dear friend of mine, she was able to find me another one for my birthday. This time I am never letting it go. This camera is amazing and with the external flash unit can really take some emotional shots. My third favorite is more of the new addition to my camera family. The Ricoh GR II is small but packs a huge digital punch! You have to figure out how to set it to your liking but once you got it down this thing is fucking gnarly. I attach my Leica flash unit to it and sometimes I think it produces better images than my Canon 5D MK II. Again, it all depends on your taste. We all got rooms next to each other so pretty much the 39th floor of the Trump Hotel was the drunk section of the towers. This was a half play half work trip. It was homemade, black & white, grainy and a whole lot of fucking awesome. Kids just aren't up on how it once was. The new wave of creatives don't know that at one point everything was hand drawn, xeroxed and overlapped to make an illustration or a publication. There is a powerful freedom knowing you manifested something using only your ideas and analog resources.<br /><br />So why a zine? Because it embodies everything I am. It is simple, self-efficient and reminds me of when I was growing up in the early 90's. Anyone can put some shit through illustrator to make a fancy shmancy layout. I enjoy trying to make something beautiful out of the rawest shit I can come up with. <br /><br />This is first issue of many to come. It is a super limited 10 page zine made with my two bare hands and will come with a couple of buttons.<br /><br />Want one before its gone? Sure, why not. This time I want my shit to be different. Not super flashy, not too basic. I want it to feel like you are looking through a online catalog. I figured I would categorize my work as you would seen in a fashion collection, by seasons. Each season will break down my journey and where I'm currently at in my career. Way to often people see a photo that looks super snazzy but they have no idea who shot it. They know nothing about the personality behind the work. I say, fuck it! Pick my brain, see me naked, come over and drink some booze with me. She was super fun to work with. A totally sexy and classy woman and knew exactly what she was doing. I love working with talent from all over the world. After messing with the F and speed; I dialed it in to what I thought looked pretty snazzy. In fact, the image on the right is pretty much unedited. Not too shabby huh? Of course I need to thank Victoria for letting me bring to life what I had in my head. She was awesome! Tie that in with this location (haha on side of mi casa) and a super hot cali day and you will get a nice big can of RADICAL! More shots will be coming soon.
